George Washington Chapter Virginia SAR
Memorial Day is right around the corner! Prior to that though, join volunteers in placing flags on over 800 veterans' graves Sunday, May 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Ivy Hill Cemetery. Follow signs to parking. Without volunteers, they would not be able to accomplish this task.
If you volunteer to help, keep count of the number of flags that you place and then report the amount via eMail to GW Chapter Historian, Tom Roth, for inclusion in the annual Americanism and Stark reports.
Historical Reference: Ivy Hill has been associated with Alexandria’s history since the cemetery’s beginning. Many families who helped shape Alexandria's destiny in the 19th century are buried here along with thousands more residents. Being the final resting place of Alexandria’s famous, infamous, and ordinary citizens, Ivy Hill tells a rich story. There, you will recognize names including Fairfax, Lee, Burke, Herbert, and Hooe among others reflected throughout Alexandria, on buildings, on the streets, and the names of current businesses. Most of these people built, lived in, and were significant influencers in, Alexandria.
RSVP to let Ivy Hill know you plan to help with the veterans' graves flag placement, Sunday, May 19th at 1:00 p.m. here:
