





Our February Chapter Meeting will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the Belle Haven Country Club, Alexandria, Virginia. Our guest speaker will be Patrick Mooney, chief of visitor services at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia. Mr. Mooney's topic will be the Continental Marines and the early history of the Marine Corps. The Board of Managers will meet on the same date and at the same location at 10:30 a.m.

VASSAR's annual commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan will be held February 19, 2011, in South Boston, Virginia.
On Monday, February 20, 2012, the Chapter will commemorate General George Washington's 280th Birthday at three different events. First, at 8 a.m. members are invited to attend a Morning Prayer service from the 1662 version of the Book of Common Prayer (the version known to General Washington) at Historic Pohick Church, which was the colonial parish of George Washington and George Mason. Second, at 11 a.m. we will participate in a Wreath Laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolution at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria. Third, at 1 p.m. we plan to march in Washington's Birthday Parade in Alexandria -- the largest parade in the nation celebrating George Washington's Birthday. The 2012 VASSAR Annual Meeting will be held February 24-26, 2012, in Richmond, Virginia. Details will be posted here and on the VASSAR website when available.
